More on the artist, Tina Keune

Christina Keune is a heritage artist and historian of the traditional folk arts of Norway’s Rosemaling and Sweden's, Dalmålning. Interior walls and functional wooden objects in Norway were decorated with classical leaf and scroll forms using earth tone paints during the 18th and 19th centuries. Swedish folk art at this time, complemented its interiors with painted linen wall hangings often depicting bible stories. Her work follows the original techniques and designs or may employ modern rosemaling interpretations.

Sail the Viking Longship Sea Hrafn (Sea Raven)

    October 5, 2024 (October 12 Rain date)

Join us on a Viking Longship Voyage

Members and guests will travel to St. Clement’s Island near Leonardstown, MD for a Lodge adventure aboard the Sea Raven, an authentic reconstruction of a Viking-era vessel.  Registration is available on Wild Apricot, with the first 18 registrants reserving a seat on the Longship.  In case of inclement weather or inadvisable sailing conditions, the rain date will be October 12.

We will gather at10 am to prepare the Sea Hrafn (Sea Raven) for our “voyage.” Prior to our departure, participants will have a mandatory orientation, safety demonstration, and training session - as we will provide the majority of rowing power.  Our group must learn how to handle the sail under the direction of the Longship Company. In addition, “sailors” must sign a waiver, (provided by Drott Lodge in advance or signed on the day of the sail).  Directions to the launch area will be provided to those that have registered (in advance of the sailing).

    Registration is required:

There will be a $10 fee for members; $20 for non-members.

    More on the Longship Company

The Longship Company, Ltd. is a non-profit educational organization devoted to increasing understanding and knowledge of the life, culture, technology, commerce, and exploration of the early northern European seafarers and those with whom they came into contact. Because of Coast Guard regulations, the company cannot advertise “for hire” rides.  It will only accept “donations,” which Drott Lodge will make in the amount of $200 for our single sailing.  Final plans for a picnic lunch, etc., will be made closer to the time of the trip.
