3 pm Dan Andersson event
This afternoon’s concert presents six poems by Dan Andersson (1888-1920) set to music, performed in Swedish with spoken commentary in English.
Dan Andersson’s poetry was inspired by the life of ordinary people of his native region of Dalarna at the turn of the last century. Many of these people, including relatives of Dan Andersson, emigrated to the USA.
Andersson has often been described as Sweden’s “most beloved poet.” His enduring popularity is due in large part to the fact that his works have continually been set to music and performed in new versions for over 100 years.
The performers, Cliff Gaddy (vocals and baritone ukulele) and Kerstin Gaddy (harmonica), are members of the Nordic folk music ensemble, Washington’s Spelmanslag. They have performed as a duo in the Washington region and in Sweden and Finland.
